Discovery Ventura at 1888 East Thompson Boulevard, Ventura, California.

My family had just arrived into Ventura for a little vacation and we needed some lunch. The place we wanted to go to had a huge line, so we ended up here. The food was delicious, thank goodness, because the service was under par. The waitress was super slow and couldn’t multi task or anticipate our needs. It took 10 minutes to get water, another 10 for the drinks and another 10 for the sugar and lemon for my mother-in-law’s tea, which was cold by then. When we got our food, we had to wait again for utensils and napkins. Shouldn’t those have been brought out before the meal? And they were out of two things we ordered, one being French fries. How does that happen at noon on a Sunday? My daughter said she saw our server on her cell phone at one point. Sorry I don’t remember her name, but she had long dark hair and needs some training.

Very nice place. Had a great time seeing a concert last Saturday. Food was delicious. Salad was great. I am giving them a three due to customer service or lack thereof. From the entrance and throughout the entire night the service was lacking. Great venue. Great concept but it needs to be more organized and employed with a few seasoned workers. When I arrived the doorman was standing off to the side in a conversation with a lady. I walked up and waited. He never acknowledged me. It was my first time there so didn't know what to expect so I went inside. There was a young girl behind the counter. In my opinion there should have been two people there. She was trying to take care of bowlers, their shoes and check in the people coming into the concert. She checked me in only to tell me that I needed to go back outside to get wristband from the door guy. Door guy was a little snarky...made a comment about me needing to get band before going in. I didn't know. Didn't realize that you need to reserve tables before hand either. Also you place your food order at the hostess table. They told me that I could sit at this one table that no one was sitting at. Worked for me. Took them a long time to figure out how to ring up my order of a salad with no tomatoes. No problem I told them everyone needs to learn and it takes longer I understand. However, as soon as I got to the table a lady was just sitting down at the table. I sat down at one end, table seated 8 people. She said excuse me you can't sit here this is reserved. No sign or anything. I said no it's not I just spoke to the hostess. I asked where her family was and she said they were coming. I went back to hostess. After all it was because I waited on them that it took me awhile to get to the table. Her response when I told her what happened. If she says it's reserved, it's reserved. I was left having to wait for a table. People who ordered hot food after my order got theirs. I still didn't have my salad. When I went to check on the status of my food they gave me explanation on how the box they gave me would vibrate when my order is ready. If it doesn't light up and vibrate your order is not ready. Gee I knew that...just thought 40 minutes for a salad was a little long to wait. Bar staff did a great job. Food was tasty and worth the wait. Hopefully, management will take comments seriously since I have read other reviews with similar issues as I have mentioned.
